City of Ankeny


North Ankeny Blvd from NE 18th St to NE 36th St
This project will include the reconstruction of Ankeny Boulevard to a 4-lane curb and gutter section along the entire mile length. Traffic will be maintained during this major reconstruction, but there will be short-term detours on the side streets connecting to the highway.  The project will include new traffic signals at the NE 36th Street intersection, a recreation trail, sidewalks, street lights, and utilities.  The construction should begin the week of April 14.

SW State St / Prairie Trail Construction
A number of projects are commencing at this time along SW State Street north of SW Oralabor Road.  These include new traffic signals at the intersection of SW State Street and SW Vintage Parkway, and landscape improvements along SW State Street from SW Prairie Trail Parkway north to SW Vintage Parkway.  SW State Street will need to be reduced to one lane in each direction at certain times during this spring and summer.

I-35 from Iowa 210 to E 1st St in Ankeny

Mon - Fri: 7 p.m - 6 a.m.
Beginning Sun, Apr. 13, work will begin on for an upcoming asphalt overlay and safety improvement project to be completed later this summer.  For several weeks before the overlay we will be patching and doing grading work on both the NB and SB directions of I-35 between Iowa 210 and 1st street in Ankeny.


SW Ankeny Rd from NW 72nd Pl to SW Westview Dr
SW Ankeny Road will be closed from County NW 72nd Place north to SW Westview Drive. A marked detour will be in place directing traffic to use SW Westview Drive.  The closure will begin on May 27 and is expected to last through the summer.

13th St from Grand Ave to High St
13th St between Grand Ave and High St will be closed beginning Wednesday, April 23.  This is a permanent closure to allow for the construction of the new Wellmark building. 

SE 5th from E Titus Ave to E Hackley Ave
SE 5th St from E Titus Ave to E Hackley Ave will be closed to traffic beginning Tuesday, May 6 for approximately 3 months.  This closure is necessary for Yeader Creek bridge rehabilitation.  

A detour will be posted using E McKinley Ave, South Union St and E Porter Ave.

Lane closure on Fleur Drive Bridge
The northbound lanes of the old Fleur Drive Bridge over the Raccoon River will be closed beginning Monday, May 12.  The closrue is part of the bridge rehabilitation project that will be ongoing until later this fall.  The southbound lanes will remain open during this first phase of construction.  

A detour will be marked using M.L. King Jr. Parkway east to SW 16th St.  Traffic on the two new M.L. King Jr. Parkway bridges over the Raccoon River will NOT be affected. 

University Ave & 2nd Ave intersection
Beginning at 9 a.m. on May 5, the westbound curb lane on University Ave east of 2nd Ave will be closed to traffic.  

The closure will last for several weeks and is part of a project to install a water main in 2nd Ave between I-235 and University Ave.  Lane closures will also later affect 2nd Ave south of University as the water main work progresses.  The project is expected to be completed in August 2008.   

High Street Closures
Two sections of High St will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, May 12 in conjunction with the Ingersoll Run Sewer Project.

The first section is just east of 31st St and is necessary to install a gas main.  This portion of the street is expected to re-open by May 16.  

The second section is between 22nd St and 24th St.  this closure is necessary to begin installation of the sewer, and will be closed for approx. two months. 

Carpenter Ave from 21st St to 24th St
Carpenter Ave from 21st St to 24th St will be closed to traffic beginning June 2 for approximately two months.  This closure is necessary for storm sewer improvements.  Local access will be maintained. 

31st St between High St and Woodland Ave
31st St between High St and Woodland Ave will be closed to traffic beginning at 9 a.m. on June 4 in conjunction with the Ingersoll Run Sewer Project.  The closure is expected to last for approximately 2 months. 

E Edison Ave from SE 6th St to SE 8th St
E Edison Ave from SE 6th St to SE 8th St will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, June 23 for approximately two weeks.  The closure is necessary for sewer work.  Local access will be maintained. 

Dean Ave from E 19th St to E 22nd St
Dean Ave from E 19th St to E 22nd St will be closed from June 25 to July 9.  The closure is necessary for construction of a sanitary sewer.  A detour route will be signed using Walnut St. 

29th St from Ingersoll Ave to High St
29th St from Ingersoll Ave to High St will be closed beginning June 30 for approximately three weeks.  This closure is necessary for the Ingersoll Run Sewer Project.  Local access will be maintained. 

E Grand Ave from E 15th St to E 14th St
E Grand Ave from E 15th St to E 14th St westbound traffic only will be reduced to one lane beginning June 30 at 9 a.m. for approximately two weeks.  This closure is necessary for utilities work. 

City of Urbandale


128th St from Aurora Ave to Meredith Dr
The City of Urbandale will be reconstructing 128th Street from Aurora Avenue to Meredith Drive during the 2008 construction season.  Starting on Monday, June 16, 2008, at approximately 8:30 am, 128th Street will be closed to all through traffic from Douglas Parkway to Meredith Drive.

University Ave Phase I and Phase II

University Avenue Phase I and Phase II Construction will begin April 14, 2008 and will continue through August 2008 closing University Avenue from west of Alice’s Road to and including the intersection of University and Florence DriveDETOUR: Alice’s Road to Hickman Road/Highway 6 to Warrior Lane to Ashworth Drive.


City of West Des Moines


5th St from Railroad Ave to Railroad Place

Continued construction at 5th St and Railroad Ave as part of the Valley Junction Streetscaping Project will require closure of the west half of 5th St at Railroad until mid-July. 



Mills Civic Pkwy from Jordan Creek Pkwy to 81st St
Mills Civic Pkwy from Jordan Creek Pkwy to 81st St will be closed to traffic from April 21 through the Fall of 2008.  Detour signage will direct motorists north to Bridgewood Blvd. 

S 60th St from Mills Civic Pkwy to Grand Ave
S 60th St will be closed to traffic from Mills Civic Pkwy to Grand Ave beginning May 19.  The closure is necessary for repaving of S 60th St and is expected to last two months.  A detour route will be marked using 50th St.

Sylvania Dr west of 28th St
The westbound curb lane of Sylvania Dr will be closed for repairs until July 7.
